The weather forecast says it will be sunny and warm this weekend. I'd like to go out somewhere, but I'm a little tired of going to crowded places. On the other hand, it's too nice a day to just stay indoors.
On weekends like that, if you go to the ATC waterfront, you'll find that just the right things happen.
The stage is right in front of the sea.
A dance contest will be held on a stage outside the O's building, facing Osaka Bay.
The annual Sakishima Dance Festival is back! This year's preliminary round B will begin in the afternoon on Sunday, May 31st. Children from elementary school to high school will take turns performing in teams. With the ocean as their backdrop, they'll dance with all their heart for three minutes. Admission is free, and anyone is welcome to stop and watch.
I wasn't particularly trying to be moved, but after watching it, I felt a little more cheerful. This performance has that kind of mysterious charm. Perhaps that's the power of children's genuine passion.
The teams that advance from Preliminary Round B will proceed to the finals on June 14th. The grand prize is a 50,000 yen voucher for ATC Oz. Watching from the preliminaries will give you a different perspective on the finals.

Because the sun is so strong, I go inside the O's building between performances. The air conditioning is on, and it's a relief to be inside.
Looking up to the second floor, you'll find a row of hat specialty shops . They have a full range of summer hats, from caps to wide-brimmed styles, making you want to pick one up and try it on.
Children often stop in the capsule toy corner. No matter how many times you urge them on, they just won't move. Perhaps being able to think, "Well, that's okay," is what makes it a suitable way to spend the weekend.
Having lunch at one of the restaurants on the Seaside Terrace is also a great idea. If you can find a seat with a view of the outside and take your time to eat, you'll be able to enjoy the afternoon dance performances in a different way.

I watched a dance performance, browsed a hat shop, played a capsule toy machine once, had lunch, and got a drink on my way out.
There are days when, even though you haven't done anything particularly special, you feel like you've had a wonderful afternoon. Being by the sea makes you feel like you're using your time a little more leisurely. Whether that's just your imagination or not, please come and see for yourself.
*From May 16th to July 12th (weekends only), the "Detective Precure! Mystery Solving Festival" is also being held on the 4th floor of the ITM building. You can enjoy a full day of fun by combining it with the dance festival.

Every time I watch the dance on the beach, I'm reminded that children's genuine passion straightens out the perspective of adults. I feel that way every year when I see them on the stage at Sakishima.
