[PROFILE]
A new kind of idol group that debuted with a CD on July 29, 2015. They pioneered an original genre called "Kawaii-Death," which combines J-POP with death metal vocals. The members are Rie Kaneko (18 years old) and Rei Kuromiya (15 years old). Kaneko won the grand prize (Kaneko) and Kuromiya was an honorable mention (Kuromiya) at the "Miss iD 2015" idol audition hosted by Kodansha.
Their first single, "Nippon Manju," became a worldwide sensation, with the song racking up over 16 million views on YouTube, and they quickly rose to prominence in the music scene.
They have already sold out their solo shows in the US (NY and LA) and Germany (Cologne), and their first solo show in Japan (Shinjuku BLAZE) also sold out instantly.
From their debut until now, the group consisted of three members, including Australian drag performer "Ladybeard." At their first solo performance in Japan at Shinjuku BLAZE in April of this year, they unexpectedly announced that they would be going on hiatus. Then, on August 1st, they announced that their hiatus was over and that Ladybeard had left the group.
The unit has been renamed "The Idol Formerly Known As LADYBABY" and has started a new chapter with a double-center system, centered around Rei (Kuromiya) and Rie (Kaneko)!
